Kara Successfully Conducts 6th Training Workshop for County Leaders

The 6th edition of the KARA 3-day training workshops for County leaders took place on the 16th-18th March 2016, and was held at the Laico Regency Hotel, Nairobi. Members of County Public Service Board from Mandera, Wajir, Taita Taveta, Uasin Gishu and Kwale attended the workshop whose theme was “County Human Resources Performance Management for Better Service Delivery. “ The workshop was officially opened by Prof. Margaret Kobia, Chairperson, Public Service Commission who was also the Chief Guest.

Prof. Kobia in her remarks highlighted the gains realized so far through devolution and advised participants to always ensure fairness and accountability while conducting their duties. She challenged them to formulate and implement policies that promotes better management of human resources and enhances access to service delivery at the Counties.

KARA chairman Mr. Richard Nyaga in his opening remarks advised participants to utilize the new skills and knowledge gained during the training to improve their capacities to effectively execute their mandates. He said that KARA will continue to seek partnerships with various key institutions such as the Council of Governors, Public Service Commission, and County Assembly Forums among others in order to build synergy and develop comprehensive training programmes based on existing and emerging needs.

The three days workshop focused on various topics on performance management including: County Human Resource Performance Management Framework, Performance Contracting and appraisal system, County Human Resource Performance Management & Service Delivery. The trainings were facilitated by Ms. Majden Kabunge, Mr. John Burugu and Mr. Caleb Opon.

The workshop was closed by Mr. Justin Bundi, the Clerk of the National Assembly. Mr. Bundi in his speech explained the performance management mechanisms applied at the National Assembly to ensure better service delivery. He advised participants to embrace and implement performance management at their respective Counties as a way of creating public awareness in service delivery expectations and also public confidence and satisfaction in devolution.
